Indiana University

Sigma Nu was established at Indiana University in 1892 and has included distinguished alumni such as Herman B. Wells, Bill Armstrong and many more. We currently have 90+ members and are always looking forward to meeting those interested in fraternity life.

Scholarships

The White Star Endowment, Inc. (WSE) was formed in 1979 to encourage, assist, promote, foster and support education for Sigma Nu. The original incorporators were Herman B. Wells, William S. Armstrong, and Richard H. Silcox. Since its inception, WSE has awarded or assisted in the award of thousands of dollars in scholarships and educational assistance, primarily for the Beta Eta Chapter of Sigma Nu.

1. Herman B. Wells Academic Scholarships. These scholarships were established by Tom Lofton through the WSE. Currently, each active member of Sigma Nu will receive the following funds, each semester, for their academic performance.

3.25 – 3.5 GPA per semester shall receive $500
3.5 – 3.75 GPA per semester shall receive $750
3.75 and up each semester shall receive $1,000
All A’s, each semester shall receive $1,250

2. Wells-Lofton Scholarship. Funds held at the National Fraternity’s Sigma Nu Educational Foundation. Funds exceed $100,000 and income can be used for yearly scholarships upon the recommendation of WSE.

3. Joseph G. and Anna B. Wells Scholarship. This scholarship was established from funds contributed to the I.U. Foundation by Herman B. Wells. The funds are held at the IUF and currently are sufficient to award two (2) $6,500 plus scholarships per year.

4. White Star Endowment, Inc. Funds held by WSE. Various scholarships in the total amount of approximately $6,000 are paid yearly. Recipients must apply and scholarships are awarded by WSE based upon good scholarship or need or both.

5. Judge John L. Niblack Scholarship. Funds at IUF which currently are sufficient to award approximately $800 per year to the outstanding freshman for academic excellence.

6. Rock Fund. Funds held by WSE pay a scholarship to an outstanding senior regardless of GPA, in the amount of approximately $1,000. Leadership and devotion to Beta Eta are necessary.

7. Clyde Dreisbach Scholarship. Funds at IUF which currently are sufficient to award approximately $1,200 per year at discretion of the WSE.
